Night time routine for unruly hair

Night time routine for unruly hair

Unruly locks are no joke.

It’s annoying, hard to deal with and makes us late for first dates.

But it can be a sign you need to mix up your routine.

It can be so frustrating when you think you’ve done the MOST, but still wake up with a kinky fringe and tangled ends.

Hair comes first at Damn Gina, and we’re here to share our ULTIMATE pamper guide.

Whether you’re new to all things hair care or just looking for a change, follow these steps to make your crown sparkle and your friends jelly.

1. Let’s get fresh

The first step to your night routine should be giving it a good wash.

You don’t have to do this every night but remember, this is the ULTIMATE routine.

Getting the right shampoo and conditioner for your locks isn’t taken seriously, but it can really impact how your hair behaves.

The general rule when it comes to shopping for hair care is to buy the one that you need (this sounds obvious, but you’d be surprised how many people opt for the wrong one!).

If you have fine hair, you don’t want thick formulas that will weigh down your hair and make it greasy.

If you have thicker, coarse hair, you’ll need something that can get into all the nooks and crannies, and can deeply nourish.

Stay away from sulphates when it comes to hair care.

Sulphates are famous for stripping the hair of its natural oils, leaving it dry and hard to style.

If you already have hard to manage hair, adding sulfates into the mix will cause more problems.

Aim for a shampoo that gently cleanses and a conditioner that smooths the frizzy bits (and smells delicious of course).

2. Ever tried a mask?

Masks aren’t just for your face.

Hair masks are generally a hard-working conditioner that helps soften the hair, with added proteins to protect and repair.

You can use them as often as you need.

Whether it's part of your routine or a once in a while treat after a week of heat (and the sneaky sleepover) to give your hair a moisture boost.

Top tip:

If your hair is really going through it and you can’t get in at the hairdressers, keep your hair mask in during the day or overnight before rinsing out for SUPER silky locks.

3. Leave in treatments

With long and short-term benefits, leave-in treatments are a great one to add to your routine.

These can be in the form of lightweight oils or luxurious creams, that help repair and prevent any damage.

These are key if you suffer from frizz or split ends.

Initially, they’ll provide shine and a soft feel to your mid-lengths and ends.

But over time they can repair damage caused by styling and colouring.

Worried about how leave-in products will react to your hair?

There are some great oils for curly hair, specially designed to create definition and long-lasting fierceness.

If you’re unsure as to what your hair will like, nip in to your hairdressers and ask for some recommendations (a lot of salons sell the products they use too, so you don’t have to go searching).

4. Overnight success

We couldn’t go through a whole blog post and not mention our own products now, could we!

5. The extras

There’s nothing quite like a weekly treat to cheer you up.

Using treatments and masks when you can is one thing, but making them a regular feature can help improve the texture and appearance of your hair drastically.

Put some time aside in the week for some “me time” and thank us later.

Here at Damn Gina, we take beauty sleep very seriously and want to make sure you slay the day.
